Intent:
"To build safe, independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement"
Implementation
At The Springfields Academy our Animal Care pathway offers students an engaging and practical introduction to the animal care sector. Through hands-on sessions at Larkrise Educational Farm, students will gain an understanding of the concepts and techniques necessary to meet the welfare needs of a variety of animals, as well as engage with livestock. We aim to include enriching visits to farms, vets and pet stores creating another concrete experience of different carer options in the animal sector.
The Animal Care pathway is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the field, broadening students’ experiences and understanding of the diverse career paths available in this sector. Our program emphasizes applied learning, integrating expert knowledge with practical skills.
Students who complete this course can progress to a variety of further studies at post 16 and ultimately pursue careers in the Animal Care sector. The curriculum is designed to balance breadth and depth while allowing students to tailor their learning to their individual interests and career goals. As the Animal Care sector evolves, our content remains current and relevant.
Our dedicated staff bring enthusiasm and expertise, setting high standards that inspire students because our goal is to prepare students for the employment market by providing a clear understanding of available options and the importance of developing employability skills.
Students will explore three key components:
Component 1: Animal Handling
Students will develop essential animal handling skills and learn the principles of animal behavior, enabling them to catch, handle, and release animals safely.
Component 2: Animal Accommodation and Housing
This component focuses on the accommodation and housing needs of animals. Students will gain practical experience in preparing, maintaining, and cleaning animal habitats.
Impact beyond Springfields:
The majority of pupils who access Animal care pathway go on to study at Lackham college or apprenticeships in their Post 16 placement. We are proud that we have a track record of 0% NEET over the last five years.
