Black History Month 2025
As part of our commitment to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, we will be celebrating Black History Month across October 2025. Activities include:
- In Explorer 3, pupils will focus on Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr, the artist Sonia Boyce and explore and celebrate black poets and authors.
- Explorer 4 will be focusing on Barack Obama and his links with the civil rights movement in America (Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King). They will be developing their understanding of protected characteristics, as well as listening to and celebrating music of black origin. Finally, they will research and learn about black scientists, engineers and inventors.
- In Pathfinders, pupils will be learning about the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963 and influential people in both history and current popular culture e.g. Marcus rashford. They will also be learning about the protected characteristics and why these are important. They will explore current news events and consider how racism affects many people in today’s society – hence why Black History Month is so important!
