The Routes
The Routes Provision delivers a highly personalised and adaptive approach to the National Curriculum, specifically designed to support pupils with demand avoidant profiles who may find the classroom environment overwhelming for sustained periods of time. This provision recognises the need for flexible, individualised pathways that respect each pupil’s unique learning style and emotional needs, offering a environment where they can build trust, reduce anxiety, and engage with their education at a pace that suits them.
Functioning similarly to a resource base, The Routes acts as a bridge between more structured specialised classroom settings and the strategies required by these learners. Each pupil is linked to a designated “core offer” class that reflects their peer group and academic stage. With careful planning and ongoing emotional and academic support, pupils are gradually encouraged to access this class, with the ultimate aim of achieving full integration as their confidence, resilience, and readiness develop.
Initially, pupils follow our personalised Explorer Curriculum. As they progress, pupils may transition to recognised pathways such as Functional Skills qualifications, aligned with their abilities, interests, and long-term goals.
Entry into The Routes is managed through a robust internal admissions process, with clear entry and exit criteria. This ensures that every placement is based on a comprehensive understanding of the pupil’s individual profile, allowing for a placement that is both supportive and aspirational. Regular reviews and close collaboration with families and professionals are integral to the process, ensuring that progress is closely monitored and each pupil is supported to thrive.
