Hair and Beauty
Intent:
"To build safe, independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement"
Implementation
At The Springfields Academy, we are committed to delivering a curriculum that reflects our vision and core values, ensuring a diverse educational experience tailored to all our students. Our Hair and Beauty program is available for students in Years 9, 10 and 11, providing a blend of practical and theoretical learning.
The Hair and Beauty pathway focuses on hands-on sessions in hair styling, nail treatments and nail art. The aim of this qualification is to equip students with the transferable skills, attributes, and behaviours necessary for further study and future employment.
Hair and Beauty topics covered include customer service, hairdressing techniques, nail services, health and safety in the beauty industry, and career pathways within the sector. Students will have the chance to work in a real salon environment, gaining insights into the business aspects of the hair and beauty industry.
We believe in integrating career development throughout our curriculum, encouraging responsibility and independence in our students. This qualification enhances opportunities for learners by focusing on both transferable skills and those specific to the hair and beauty field. During enrichment activities, younger students can express their creativity while developing essential skills such as communication and teamwork. Successful completion of this course can lead to further studies at Hair and Beauty colleges or apprenticeships in the industry.
Springfields Academy have positive relationships with local post 16 colleges in which we explore the next stage in their Hair and Beauty journey and how we can support them to achieve their goals.
Impact beyond Springfields:
The majority of pupils who access Hair and beauty pathway go on to study hair and beauty in their Post 16 placement. We are proud that we have a track record of 0% NEET over the last five years.
