Pathways
The Springfields Academy is ambitious for our pupils. The school recognises the importance of ensuring a smooth transition to adulthood for pupils, whilst maximising their academic, social and emotional potential through the offer of a person centred, broad and balanced curriculum.
We start identifying the most appropriate education and training, care and health pathways as part of the Preparation for Adulthood review process, starting at age 13/14. This process considers the pupil’s aspirations and abilities, and, for those with the most complex needs, the planning is integrated across education, health and social care.
It is anticipated that at 16, at the end of Key stage 4, many young people will be able to secure their education and training outcomes by progressing onto a college course where any necessary additional support can be provided through a college-based plan. To facilitate this transition the school is offering the pupils academic pathways that are supported by a range of specific curriculums, designed to meet the needs/outcomes (set out in their EHCP) of the individual pupil.
All Explorer/ Pathfinder pupils will follow 2 specific curriculum pathways, these are called Major and Minor pathways. A pupil’s Major pathway is related to an area of pupil’s interest, outcomes in the EHCP and preparation for transition into appropriate post 16 education/employment. A pupil’s Minor pathway is where pupils have an interest in a subject and would like to learn more about this.
