Pride 2026

At Springfields everyone is included and everyone belongs.

Pride is particularly important to us at Springfields given that a study by the University of Cambridge (2021) found that autistic adults are 8 times more likely to identify as asexual or 'other' sexualities. Autistic men are about three and a half times more likely to identify as bisexual than non‑autistic men. Autistic women are about three times more likely to identify as gay or lesbian than non‑autistic women.

On Wednesday 13th May 2026, EDIB Leads, Hannah Armitage and Maxine Page, led training for staff on Pride Month. We explored different terminology linked to Pride and reflected on aspects of Pride that we feel comfortable and less comfortable discussing with learners. We also discussed our plans for Pride month.

We are looking forward to celebrating Pride month with a range of fantastic activities, including:

  • Raising the Pride flag ceremonies
  • Learning about the history of Pride and why it is important
  • Reading stories featuring LGBTQ+ characters
  • Taking part in a colour run
  • Creating a colourful handprint memorial

We look forward to sharing these and celebrating with you!
