Statement of principles
Residential Social Care at Springfields Academy builds safe independent lives for young people who require a positive structured environment of five day provision, linked to their diagnosis and presenting need.
Residential care is a key component of the schools local offer and is integrated within the existing systems and structures.
This integrated model allows for a targeted child centred approach with an emphasis on promoting independence in all aspects of the child’s life.
The residential curriculum is meaningful, relevant, practical, age and developmentally appropriate. The aim is to enable the child to independently develop a range of skills (Social communication, social interaction, social imagination and flexibility, sensory processing, emotional understanding and self-awareness, life skills and community participation) and give the child the opportunity to practice these skills in the wider community. We aim to transform behaviours for learning through a programme of structured tasks and activities which builds confidence, efficacy and esteem. This model allows children to be safe, independent and successful citizens of the future.
